Sock in Mouth

For a couple of weeks now Wilder has been fascinated with his feet, eating his big toe at any opportunity. However, he is happiest when he manages to successfully transfer his sock from his foot to his mouth, like this:

(Bluet and Ilona also think this is hilarious)

Wilder eating real food

It comes from a jar, but he likes it!
I think this is the first time he ever ate, almost a month ago. Now he eats all the fruits and vegetables (suitable for an almost 5 month old

And another time wrapped up warm to go out and about

Ilona's first meal

This Saturday we took the plunge and fed Ilona her first 'real' food - some rice cereal in milk. As you can see from the ACTUAL PHOTO of her first ever mouthful and accompanying video, she rather enjoyed it, even if it was quite messy. I recommend watching the video at the bottom so you can hear Ilona's happy noises. And for reference, here is Bluet's first meal

Emily's phone

I also managed to recently get my hands on Emily's phone for long enough to download and upload some photographs. Let's see what is going on

Well, here are two different approaches to child rearing. I prefer to spin Bluet round and round and round, whilst Emily likes to play aeroplanes:

Emily took Bluet to Target. For entertainments, Bluet was given a book to draw in. This is a picture of Ilona sucking her dummy

Eating at the table

We decided it was time that Bluet ate dinner at the table with us. This involved 1) moving the table into the living room (we've been eating at the breakfast bar and using the table as a 'desk' and storage area), and 2) taking down Bluet's old seat. Since then, Bluet has happily been sitting and eating at the table, even climbing onto her chair when hungry, then waiting patiently for us to bring her her food.

Genetics

BTW we just accidentally fed Bluet some swiss cheese (it was free and unidentified) and she would not eat it because it is horrible. This is the first cheese she has ever refused to eat (including stinky french cheeses and blue cheeses. This must be genetic as both Emily and I can taste the horrible swiss cheese taste people who eat the stuff must be insensitive to.

Firsts

Sunday was a big day. Bluet had her first ever taste of ice cream. She soon got the hang of sticking out her tongue and letting the creamy deliciousness flow into her mouth. Although I think she also experienced her first brain freeze. Later we went to the zoo and Bluet met her first celebrity. As you can see from this paparazzi style shot, it was Elmo and Bluet loved him. Strangely he looked significantly bigger than on TV.

Puttanesca sauce

Yesterday Bluet ate left over pasta with puttanesca sauce* for dinner. As you can see, she loved it. Even though it was full of anchovies and was quite spicy. No olives, though. Because those are horrible

*recipe available on request. It's really easy

Dinner time

These days Bluet really only wants to eat what we are eating. This means when I get home from work there is an approximately five minute window to prepare everyone's dinner before Bluet starts to wonder where her food is.

Today I made a delicious cheese, tomato and onion omelette. When I looked over, there was Bluet happily playing in the corner. Perfect, she was happy and I could cook. Turns out she was in the middle of a project - to remove all the flaps from 'Where's Spot'. Today she got the rug the turtle hides under. Fortunately we have two copies of this classic volume. Here she is, cardboard rug in hand.

Today

Is an exciting day as for the first time Bluet is eating exactly the same food as us - macaroni cheese (although she left out the ketchup required to make it really delicious). I decided to take a photo using the flash. Here it is. It made Bluet laugh and close her eyes

Apples and Slides

To a child, the world is a marvellous place filled with treasures at every turn. What we may discard as unwanted rubbish can fascinate a small baby for hours.

Viz, here is Bluet eating my discarded apple core, feasting as if it were a Michellin-starred desert (although perhaps less elegantly than decorum would require if that were the case).

Also, from a couple of weeks ago, here is Bluet enjoying sliding for the first time

Bluet enjoys a Farley's Rusk

Just like generations of British children before her, Bluet enjoys a Farley's Rusk.

PS they are delicious
