The big race

Our final day of our first stint in York, we all took part in the York 10K - with me, Simon and Nick running 10K and Bluet, Ilona, Della and Gus running 5K. A fun time was had by all, I think. Especially once we had our medals. The adult's race featured a run through the streets of York and past the minster, which was pretty cool (although at 22C, the weather was too hot to enjoy properly).

And afterwards we had the traditional once yearly fish and chips.

Second race

On Sunday Bluet and Ilona (and Emily) ran the Race for the Cows at New Pond Farm. It was raining, as you can see. Bluet and Ilona set off together, into the rain, on the shorter kids 'piglet' run (I think a quarter of a mile), but as it started just after the slightly longer run, Bluet followed the kids ahead and actually ran further than anticipated (I think it was 0.8 miles), but she loved it. Muddy, we then headed home (it would've been fun to hang around if it was sunny, there were free bagels and coffee, but it was just too wet), while Emily ran her 7 mile race.

First Race

Yesterday morning we all left the house early (for a Sunday) and headed out to the 2018 Weston Reservoir Run. Emily ran the 5K, while Bluet and Ilona both ran the kids fun run, once around the track and they'd completed their first race. Wilder did not run as he needs to learn to walk first (he is getting close, a couple of steps at a time).

Running Race

The video to accompany yesterday's trip to the running track. The snow has now all gone because it rained all day

Sunday afternoon fun run

Emily left this morning to attend a meeting for one day in San Francisco (she is back on Tuesday afternoon, 24h on a plane and 24h in America). After she had left and Ilona had napped we headed to the school playground where there is a 100m running track. Bluet and I did a couple of running races (she definitely won the one where I was also carrying Ilona), whilst Ilona did lots of standing and some quite fast walking. There was also a Dad and his kid flying a small remote controlled biplane which entertained them both, as did a big patch of virgin snow which Bluet quickly filled with footprints (with a couple of handprints from Ilona, until she learned it was 'cold').

Bluet stops and poses for a photo (saying 'cheeeese', as you can see)

Spot the difference

The other day after Emily had been running, she was lying stretching on the floor, and Ilona did her best to do the same. See if you can spot the difference.

Also, here is Ilona enjoying the sofa

Wildlife

IMG_7755

Last weekend we went to a water system designed to prevent flooding that doubles as some kind of wildlife haven in the outskirts of the city. We saw a toad and some grasshoppers, and Bluet ran around happily (and far away from us). She has limitless energy for running around outside these days. Then as we were leaving Bluet picked five wild flowers, and gave them to Emily (above).
