This weekend we went to San Antonio, a brisk 3 hour drive from Houston. I had my first experience of motorway driving, which went well, even if it was a white knuckle ride for me. Anyway, once we got there we checked in to the Crockett Hotel, named after Davy Crockett who died at the Alamo - San Antonio is a tourist trap of a town, where everyone comes to see the Alamo (where there was a big battle where some proto-Texans lost to some Spaniards) and then stays to enjoy the river. The Alamo is in very nice gardens, which Bluet enjoyed running around. And some 'candons' which she liked sitting on. She also loved the river walk, as on Saturday morning there was hardly anyone there so she could walk along walls to her heart's content. We also went on a river boat, which we thought she would really enjoy, which she did for a small number of minutes. She did enjoy going under bridges though. Then on Sunday before we headed home we went to see San Antonio's answer to the space needle. We didn't actually go up but Bluet had a great time playing in the mud in her ladybird wellies (see every picture), and Upsy Daisy was never far behind (see every picture).

Hey guys! I recognize all those places. I wanted to add a couple of spots you should check out if you ever go back to San Antonio (the entire town isn’t a tourist trap). After living there for 3 years you’d think that I’d have a long list of places we loved to recommend, but unfortunately that is not the case. For kid friendly things to do you might want to check out the missions on the edge of town (I am talking about the old buildings but there is also a minor league ball club called the missions which might be fun too). Also, the King William District is just south of downtown. It has great old architecture and a walking trail along the river which is pretty nice. In the King William neighborhood you must check out La Tuna, an outdoor restaurant/bar with really beautiful big trees and locals claim it is the coolest spot in San Antonio on a hot day. Also, our favorite breakfast spot is Twin Sisters, a little north of downtown. Man do I miss the chilaquiles! They also serve lunch and dinner which I’m sure are good too (and kid friendly). While in the northern part of town check out the zoo located in Brackenridge Park (the park has forested walking trails too if you are tired of visiting zoos). We lived within walking distance of the park so we were there quite a bit, although since it was before we had kids I can’t tell you if there is a playground or not. It is also great people watching on the weekend as many Hispanic families have huge parties there. Also, in that part of town is the botanical gardens which is really pretty and I think they sometimes have kids events. Enjoy!
