Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Baseball!
Bluet really wanted us to buy her this cap. But, wrong team (not the Mets)
This Sunday we were kind of bored, so we decided to hop on the train and go to the last baseball game of the season - the baseball stadium is one of the few places of interest you can get to on the train. So we headed downtown on the train (we told Bluet we were going on an adventure). We had lunch in a place where a couple of old men were playing jazz on a piano and saxophone, which entertained Bluet greatly. Then we walked over to Minute Maid Park to watch the big game - it was the Astros vs the Yankees, so the stadium was full of obnoxious expat New Yorkers, the kind of people we are normally glad to not meet here. Anyway they all went crazy because it was the last ever game for Mariano Rivera before he retired, so we got to hear a ceremony hagiographying him before the game (and he doesn't even play for the Astros, he's a Yankee). However, Bluet joined in with every round of applause during the ceremony, which were a lot because of all the Yankee fans. Then we settled down for 9 innings of baseball. We did not expect to make it that long, but with the help of some ice cream served in a baseball hat (and a quick game thanks to some inept hitting from both sides) we did (see photo). Unfortunately the stupid Yankees scored a run to tie the game so it went into extra innings, and we decided that we would skip the very end of the game and take Bluet home. Which is good as the Yankees eventually scored and won the game, which is no fun.

Of course, this was actually Bluet's second trip to a baseball game - when she was very small Emily got free tickets to the Mets and took her to see them play the Marlins. There is a slightly bigger chance that she will remember this trip in the future.
