On Saturday evening we walked around our new apartment complex and Bluet saw the moon. This is what she thought about it:

More farewelling to New York
Before I forget what we actually did, here are the rest of the photos of Bluet and Emily's farewell tour from a couple of weekends back. So looking over the pictures to refresh the memory, it appears we took Bluet to the whole foods market bar for lunch on Saturday, then headed to Barnes and Noble, where Bluet ran around like a crazy person. Then on Sunday we went to Haru for sushi, where Bluet enjoyed the miso soup and the avocado (acou cacou) that we removed from the rolls for her. After that, a farewell trip to the ancient playground. Just about covers all our favourite New York locales.

Bluet in Houston
Here is Bluet in Houston from this weekend, getting in touch with her Scottish heritage by finding a statue of Rabbie Burns in the rose garden in the park near our new house. So at least we have somewhere to eat our haggis on Burn's night. Wee timorous cowering beastie, etc etc.

Some Videos
From last week, including Bluet playing with numbers. Apparently she now knows all the letters through to F, and is particularly fond of M

Farewell to New York, Part I
Last weekend, Bluet and Emily did their farewell tour of New York, visiting many places that you will no doubt recognise from the blog. We started at Central Park and the Zoo, so that is where today's photos are from, and more will follow later in the week. Central Park must be the place that Bluet has spent the largest portion of her life so far (aside from our apartment).

And
here is a video of Bluet talking, early one evening last week. It is a long one because these days she has a lot to say

Talking
It is hard t record Bluet talking these days as usually as soon as I get the iphone out to record her, she falls silent, just in case I am about to let her watch Elmo, or something. However, when she does talk, she can say a lot - you will notice that these sound clips are much longer than in the past. Listen out for her saying 'Avocado' (A-Coo-Cac-ou). That is my favourite.
She likes to say avocado almost as much as she likes to eat it. She can also now say her own name.

New York Bye Bye
So sadly it is true, we are leaving New York for Houston. In fact, Bluet and Emily left this morning, whilst I am hanging around until the end of the month to get work finished. This means that updates to the blog may be a little sparse this month (although I hope to spend a weekend down there). But never fear, I have assembled a small collection of videos, sounds and pictures from Bluet's farewell to New York tour to post over the next few days. I will begin, however, by describing her progress with letters and numbers. Her favourite letter is B, and why not? When we were in Missouri waiting in the car by a sign that said 'beer and liquor', Bluet looked out the window and said 'I see B'. She can consistently identify the letter B wherever it is written. She is very clever. She can also consistently identify 'P' and 'O', occasionally A,C and D as well, and today she was running around saying 'ABC' as if it were all one word.
Her favourite number is 6, and on occasion she can also pick 8 out of a line up.
Emily's sister gave Bluet one of those magnetic drawing boards for Christmas. On that we like to draw the letters (or numbers) and tell Bluet what they are. Bluet then erases the number (or letter) and says 'Bye Bye, Six' or 'Six, Bye Bye'. It is very cute.

Mystery Christmas Present
We (or really Bluet) received this mystery Christmas present in an oddly shaped parcel. We have no idea who it is from, but it looks like a lot of fun, and will help Bluet learn to "play ball" - thanks for the gift, mystery gifter.

Happy New Year!
Bluet and I just returned to New York whilst Emily drives our new car to Houston. Bluet failed to sleep on the plane but was very well behaves. We are now exhausted; indeed, Bluet is already in bed. Anyway, normal service will resume after I've had a good night's sleep. In the meantime, some of the last pictures of 2012 below, with Bluet learning all about snow and giving a cat (cindy) a kiss.
